The United Kingdom is experiencing a significant cold snap, with temperatures reaching a record low of minus 18.9°C in Altnaharra, Scottish Highlands, marking the coldest January night in 15 years. The Met Office forecasts that this extreme weather will conclude by the end of the week, with temperatures expected to return to normal January levels.

As the week progresses, temperatures are anticipated to rise to between 5°C and 7°C across much of the country. The southeast will see lower temperatures ranging from 2°C to 3°C, while the western regions may experience milder conditions between 6°C and 9°C.

Interestingly, northern regions will experience a quicker relief from the freezing conditions compared to the south. Northern Ireland and the northern half of England are projected to enjoy temperatures between 9°C and 12°C early in the week.
