In a groundbreaking initiative, tech giant Meta plans to construct a massive data center campus in Talavera de la Reina, Spain, designed to harmonize with nature. The project, which spans 191 hectares, will integrate extensive natural areas, walking and cycling paths, and recreational zones, enhancing the local ecosystem.
According to the project’s informational document, a budget of €748.6 million is allocated for the construction phase, which will span from 2027 to 2036, creating an average of 300 jobs annually. The design emphasizes ecological management and the planting of native species to support local biodiversity.
The centerpiece of the campus will be a public park along the Zarzueleja stream, aimed at preserving the area’s environmental values while providing recreational opportunities for residents. Features will include wildlife observation points, picnic areas, and accessible trails, all designed to protect the region's ecological integrity.
Meta's commitment to sustainability is evident in its plans for a car-free natural space, promoting outdoor activities and wildlife conservation. The project also includes restoring the surrounding streams and integrating them into the park's design, further enhancing the area's natural beauty.
This ambitious project is expected to significantly impact the region, marking one of the most important business developments in Castilla-La Mancha in recent decades. As Meta prepares to initiate construction, it aims to set a precedent for future tech developments by prioritizing environmental stewardship.
