On January 6, 2025, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), met with Syria's interim Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shibani in Abu Dhabi. The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral ties and addressing developments in Syria.

The two officials discussed strengthening the "strong fraternal" relations between their countries and reviewed the overall situation in Syria and the region. Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed the UAE's support for Syria's independence and sovereignty, expressing solidarity with the Syrian people and backing regional and international efforts aimed at achieving their aspirations for security and stability.

Attending the meeting were senior officials from both nations, including the defense ministers. This meeting is part of al-Shibani's regional tour aimed at promoting Syria's stability, security, and economic recovery.

During his tour, al-Shibani has emphasized Syria's commitment to establishing positive foreign relations. He previously held extensive discussions with Qatari officials, highlighting a roadmap for rebuilding Syria and empowering its citizens.

Al-Shibani praised Qatar's role in supporting Syria during its reconstruction phase and expressed a desire to improve relations with the Arab and international community, moving away from previous governmental approaches. He also called on the US to lift sanctions that hinder Syria's recovery.
