Milano, January 14, 2025 - Emanuele Orsini, President of Confindustria, and Carlo Messina, CEO of Intesa Sanpaolo, have signed a new four-year agreement aimed at enhancing the growth of Italian enterprises.

The joint program allocates €200 billion by 2028 to invigorate the national production system, leveraging opportunities presented by tools such as Transition 5.0 and AI, while integrating resources already designated by the bank for the objectives of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

This new agreement renews and strengthens the collaboration initiated in 2009, which has facilitated the disbursement of €450 billion in credit to the Italian production system over fifteen years, evolving the relationship between banks and businesses, particularly supporting SMEs and mature industries during challenging phases.

The current agreement enhances actions already in place to support the real economy, focusing on investments in research and development and the enhancement of supply chain systems. Key areas of focus include:

  • Sustainable transformation processes in line with the Transition 5.0 Plan;

  • Investments in advanced production models with high potential, particularly in Aerospace, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Life Sciences;

  • Acceleration of sustainable transition, circular economy, and innovative processes with high technological content;

  • A Sustainable Housing Plan to promote mobility and attract talent to the Italian industry.

Carlo Messina stated, "Today we renew our long-standing strategic collaboration with Confindustria. Over 15 years, we have supported the Italian production system by disbursing €450 billion and creating a trust-based relationship that enables businesses to adapt and explore new perspectives. This initiative represents Intesa Sanpaolo's PNRR for enterprises, providing an additional €200 billion by 2028 to assist the entrepreneurial fabric of the country in achieving growth and competitiveness goals, investing in the future and the challenges ahead."

Emanuele Orsini emphasized, "This agreement is an essential tool supporting our medium to long-term industrial policy vision. Together with Intesa Sanpaolo, we have guided the evolution of our companies through innovative solutions in a changing landscape. The productivity crisis necessitates a focus on revitalizing investments, making the simplification of Transition 5.0 and the precise implementation of the PNRR crucial. Through this agreement, we aim to promote a participatory and inclusive working method involving all economic actors. 2025 will be a pivotal year for our economy, and we must collaborate on key areas: strengthening strategic supply chains, reducing energy costs, diversifying energy sources, revising the green deal with technological neutrality to prevent the desertification of European industry, and focusing on social well-being and equity through the Sustainable Housing Plan proposed by Confindustria."
