Collaboration Between 4-H and Microsoft to Enhance AI Literacy Among Youth

On October 31, 2024, a partnership was announced between 4-H and Microsoft Corp. aimed at improving AI literacy among youth in the United States. This initiative targets 1.4 million young individuals, particularly in small and rural communities, through a new AI Foundations curriculum integrated into Minecraft Education.

The program includes online animated videos designed to educate students, educators, and families about AI. 4-H will conduct 'train the trainer' sessions for educators, enabling them to deliver real-world scenarios and resources to students.

Heather Elliott, Chief Development and Marketing Officer of the National 4-H Council, emphasized the importance of preparing teens for future careers in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. The curriculum aims to engage students in learning about AI and its applications.

Kate Behncken, Corporate Vice President at Microsoft Philanthropies, highlighted the potential of AI to transform businesses and solve global challenges, stressing the need for widespread access to AI skills, especially in underserved communities.
