Severe Flooding in Nepal Claims Over 100 Lives Amidst Heavy Rainfall

Over 100 people have lost their lives in Nepal due to severe flooding and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall over the past two days. The Nepalese government has ordered the closure of schools in affected areas for three days as a precautionary measure.

According to Lakshmi Bhattarai, spokesperson for Nepal's Ministry of Education, the closure aims to ensure the safety of students in regions severely impacted by the weather. Areas near the capital, Kathmandu, have received over 30 centimeters of rain, causing dangerously high water levels in the Bagmati River and flooding major roads across the country.

The death toll has reached 101, with 64 individuals reported missing, as confirmed by police spokesperson Dan Bahadur Karki. The situation remains critical as authorities continue to assess the damage and respond to ongoing safety concerns.

This disaster highlights the vulnerability of Nepal to extreme weather events, exacerbating challenges in disaster preparedness and response. The international community may need to offer support as the country navigates recovery efforts.
