Russia Claims Control of New Territories in Eastern Ukraine Amid Ongoing Conflict

On November 2, 2024, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the capture of two additional villages in eastern Ukraine. The military reported the 'liberation' of the large village of Kurájivka, located near the industrial city of Kurajove in the Donetsk region, which Russia aims to fully control.

Additionally, Russian forces claimed control over the smaller village of Pershotravneve in the Kharkiv region, close to the eastern Luhansk area. This development follows a significant territorial gain, with Russia reportedly seizing 478 square kilometers of Ukrainian land in October, marking the largest territorial expansion since the early weeks of the conflict in March 2022, according to an analysis by AFP based on data from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
