X Launches New Video Tab Amid TikTok Uncertainty

This week, the internet buzzed with discussions surrounding the potential banning of TikTok by the US Supreme Court. In the wake of this uncertainty, social media platforms are vying for the attention of TikTok users. Notably, Elon Musk's X has introduced a new 'Videos' tab, enhancing its video-sharing capabilities.

The 'Videos' tab replaces the former 'Community' page and directs users to a feed of exclusively vertical videos tailored to their interests and followed accounts. Currently, this feature is available only on mobile devices, with the rollout to US users initiated on January 19.

Despite the brief downtime of TikTok, which lasted only half a day, its competitors wasted no time. Instagram has also stepped up by launching 'Edits,' a video editing feature inspired by CapCut, targeting TikTok's creator base.

The new dedicated video feed primarily showcases videos in a 9:16 aspect ratio, similar to TikTok, but occasionally includes landscape clips. While the future of this feature remains unclear, its introduction signals a strategic move to capture the short-form video market, especially if TikTok continues to operate in the US.
