USB Mouse Simulators Pose Cyber Threats

Kaspersky experts warn that USB mouse simulators, designed to keep computers active for remote workers, may harbor malware, posing a significant cyber threat.

These devices, known as mouse jigglers, prevent sleep mode and maintain online status indicators in corporate messaging systems. They connect via USB and simulate mouse movements.

In 2024, Kaspersky detected and blocked 3 billion local threats globally, including malware spread through removable USB drives and other media.

In Turkey, 21.9% of users reported encountering such local threats between July and September 2024.

Kaspersky Chief Security Researcher Marc Rivero emphasized the need for caution when connecting unknown USB devices to corporate computers. Regular cybersecurity training for employees and reliable endpoint protection are critical to safeguard against potential attacks and ensure data security.

Organizations should implement measures to mitigate local threats, especially those spread via USB devices.
