EV Charging Costs Vary Widely in Europe

Data from the European Alternative Fuels Observatory reveals significant disparities in electric vehicle (EV) charging costs across Europe.

Cheapest Charging Locations:

  • Iceland: €2.89 per 100 km, the most affordable for Tesla Model Y.

  • Portugal: €3.18 per 100 km.

  • Finland: €4.63 per 100 km.

Iceland's low prices stem from its abundant renewable energy resources, while its small market size still supports a high adoption rate of EVs, particularly in Reykjavik.

Most Expensive Charging Locations:

  • Norway: €18.93 per 100 km, the highest in Europe.

  • Slovenia: €17.02 per 100 km.

Southern Europe shows varied pricing, with Spain averaging €7.11 per 100 km and Italy at €9.12.

Public Charging Infrastructure:

The Netherlands leads with over 154,000 public charging points, followed by Germany and France with approximately 130,828 and 127,530 points, respectively.

Germany, as Europe's largest automotive market, has seen EVs account for over 25% of new car sales in recent times.
