On January 2, 2025, cinemas welcome two new films: the highly anticipated 'Nosferatu' and the alternative release 'Meeting with the Dictator.' 'Nosferatu,' directed by Robert Eggers, is the first major release of the year, having already made waves in the U.S. box office with a remarkable $40 million debut and a critical approval rating of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes.

This reimagining of the 1922 classic features a gothic aesthetic and introduces new elements, including the character’s confessions portrayed by Lily-Rose Depp. The film explores a haunting obsession set in 19th-century Germany, pitting a young woman against the iconic vampire, played by Bill Skarsgård.

Meanwhile, 'Meeting with the Dictator' dives into the dark history of Pol Pot's regime in Cambodia. Directed by Rithy Panh, the film follows three French journalists who, while seeking an exclusive interview with Pol Pot in 1978, uncover the grim realities of a nation on the brink of genocide. Panh, known for his poignant explorations of this tragic history, aims to shed light on the stark contrast between the regime's propaganda and its brutal reality.

Although 'Meeting with the Dictator' was chosen as Cambodia's representative for the Best International Feature Film at the Oscars, it did not receive a nomination. The film features Irène Jacob, Grégoire Colin, and Cyril Gueï in key roles.
