On December 6, 2024, the northern district of Dinajpur in Bangladesh recorded the lowest temperature in the country at 11.8 degrees Celsius, marking a decrease of 2.2 degrees within 24 hours. The regional weather office reported that humidity levels reached 93 percent, with wind speeds between 1 to 2 kilometers per hour.

The previous days saw temperatures of 14.0 degrees and 13.0 degrees Celsius, illustrating a significant drop in the region's climate. The cold weather has been exacerbated by chilly winds and dense fog, leading to difficulties for laborers and low-income individuals who struggle to work effectively in these conditions.

Local auto-rickshaw driver Latifur Rahman expressed the challenges of operating in such cold weather, stating that passenger availability decreases significantly in the early morning and evening hours, resulting in reduced earnings. Similarly, day laborer Sirajul Islam noted the difficulties in performing manual work during this season.

Farmers are particularly concerned, as this period is critical for planting potato seeds. The dense fog poses a risk to seed germination and can lead to crop diseases. The weather office indicated that temperatures are expected to continue dropping, with a cold wave likely to affect the region at the end of December and into early January.
