Himachal Pradesh Faces Severe Rainfall Deficit in November 2024

Himachal Pradesh reported its third driest November in over a century, with only 0.2 mm of rainfall recorded, significantly below the normal of 19.7 mm. This represents a 99 percent deficit for the month, according to the local meteorological department.

Since 1901, this year marks the third lowest rainfall in November, with the highest recorded at 88.5 mm in 1925. The department did not disclose figures for the first and second lowest rainfall events.

Out of the state’s 12 districts, 11 experienced a complete 100 percent deficit, while Lahaul and Spiti reported a 96 percent deficit. The weather office anticipates light rain or snow in isolated areas of Lahaul and Spiti, as well as higher altitudes in Chamba, Kinnaur, Kangra, and Kullu from December 1-3.

Temperature readings remained stable, with Tabo in Lahaul and Spiti recording the lowest nighttime temperature at minus 9.4 degrees Celsius. In contrast, Una reached a high of 26.6 degrees Celsius on Saturday.
