At the AWS re:Invent conference in Las Vegas, Amazon introduced the Amazon Nova family of foundational models, available exclusively through Amazon Bedrock. This new generation aims to support various generative AI tasks, providing businesses with a cost-effective solution.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy highlighted that the Nova models are approximately 75% less expensive than other leading models in Bedrock. These models feature a distillation capability, allowing the integration of intelligence from larger models into smaller, more efficient versions.
The Nova lineup includes understanding models like Nova Micro, Lite, Pro, and Premier, optimised for tasks such as text summarisation and complex document processing. Nova Micro is designed for low-latency text-based tasks, while Nova Pro caters to high-level enterprise needs, including visual question answering.
Additionally, Amazon Nova introduces creative content generation models, Nova Canvas and Nova Reel. Canvas allows for the creation of studio-quality images, while Reel enables professional-quality video production from text prompts.
Businesses can customise these models to align with specific industry terminology, enhancing their applicability in fields like legal and healthcare. Amazon Nova, equipped with safety controls and a pay-as-you-go pricing model, is currently available in select AWS regions.
