A piece of automotive history has been sold for a record price. A 1965 Ferrari 250 LM, the sixth and most significant of the 32 examples built, was auctioned off by RM Sotheby's during Retromobile Paris for a staggering €34.88 million, excluding taxes. The event took place in the Carrousel Halls of the Louvre Palace.

This particular Ferrari 250 LM, in pristine condition, has been in the hands of the same owner since 1970. It was previously owned by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) Museum, which acquired it from Chinetti Motors shortly after its participation in the 24 Hours of Daytona in February 1970.

The value of this Ferrari gem is further enhanced by its status as the overall winner (the sixth consecutive) of the 1965 24 Hours of Le Mans, driven by Masten Gregory and Jochen Rindt for the North American Racing Team (NART). The car retains its original engine and gearbox with matching numbers.
