Rare Stradivarius Violin to Auction for $18 Million

A rare violin crafted by the legendary Antonio Stradivari is set to go under the hammer, expected to reach a staggering $18 million. Donated by the New England Conservatory (NEC), this Joachim-Ma Stradivarius will be auctioned by Sotheby’s in New York on February 7 as part of its Masters Week.

The proceeds from the auction will support student scholarships, honoring the wishes of the donor, NEC graduate Si-Hon Ma. This particular violin boasts a rich history, having been owned by renowned 19th-century violinist Joseph Joachim, who is believed to have performed the Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 77 on the instrument during its 1879 premiere.

As one of the finest examples of Stradivari's work from the 18th century, this violin represents a rare piece of musical heritage, attracting collectors and music enthusiasts alike.
