The Heritage Humane Society is celebrating a remarkable 2024, transforming heartbreak into heartwarming outcomes for both animals and the community. With groundbreaking programs and record-breaking adoptions, the organization continues to inspire a new generation of animal advocates.

In 2024, 571 active volunteers dedicated over 22,000 hours to support the shelter. These dedicated individuals provided critical care by fostering 834 pets, easing the pressure on day-to-day operations. Their efforts are vital in ensuring that every animal receives the attention and care they need.

The Humane Education & Activities Manager, Kendell Thomas, has spearheaded impactful programs to educate the community about animal welfare. This initiative is shaping future advocates who will continue to support and care for animals.

In addition to educational programs, The Heritage Humane Society has improved its facilities to better serve animals and visitors. This year also saw several successful community engagement events, including the upcoming Black Tie & Tails Gala, set to debut on February 15, 2025.

One of the highlights of the year is Schwartzy's Cat Cove, which opened in July 2022. This popular spot has showcased adoptable cats and kittens, leading to 456 adoptions in a short time. The welcoming environment allows both guests and cats to roam freely, making it a beloved destination for local residents.

As 2025 approaches, The Heritage Humane Society remains committed to its mission of rescuing and rehoming animals. With nearly 180 dogs, cats, and small pets currently in their care, there are plenty of furry friends ready to find loving homes. The shelter is open for visits and adoptions from noon to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.
