Iran Launches Missile Strikes Against Israel

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

Iran launched missile strikes against Israel on Friday night, in response to Israeli attacks earlier that day. These attacks, which Iran called a "declaration of war," targeted military and nuclear sites, as well as key military figures.

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu stated the attacks would continue until the "threat" of Iranian nuclear weapons was removed. New Revolutionary Guards commander Mohammad Pakpour warned of severe consequences, while Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei vowed a strong response.

Israelis received advance warning, and most Iranian missiles were intercepted. The strikes occurred before scheduled nuclear talks with the US in Oman. Donald Trump stated he offered Iran a deal, but they were unable to reach an agreement.

Israel's military is currently engaged on multiple fronts, including Gaza, where over 55,000 Palestinians have been killed in the last 20 months. Almost 1,200 people were killed and 250 taken hostage in the Hamas-led attack on October 7th, 2023. Israel is also involved in actions in Syria and Lebanon.

Hizbullah, an Iran-backed group, condemned the Israeli strikes but stated it would not attack again. The Israeli Defense Forces Arabic language spokesman, Avichay Adraee, posted on X, asserting Israel's strength.
