The United States and Ukraine have signed a minerals and investment agreement. This agreement gives Washington preferential access to Ukrainian mineral projects. It also establishes a joint fund for Ukraine's post-war reconstruction. The accord was signed in Washington. It was strongly backed by US President Donald Trump, who wants a return on US aid to Kyiv. Ukrainian officials believe the deal can help secure continued American support in the war with Russia. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Ukrainian First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko signed the agreement. The US Treasury stated the agreement signals the Trump Administration's commitment to Ukraine. Svyrydenko said the US will contribute financially to the joint fund and may offer further aid. Trump reiterated that US support should come with returns. He cited Ukraine's rare earth mineral deposits as a strategic benefit to American interests. The Treasury acknowledged US financial support to Ukraine since Russia's invasion.
