Donald Trump has urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to negotiate with Russia. He stated that Zelensky's stance on Crimea is hindering peace talks. Trump made these comments on Truth Social on Wednesday.
Trump suggested that Zelensky's refusal to recognize Crimea and other Russian-controlled areas as part of a ceasefire is problematic. These areas include Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Luhansk. Zelensky stated that recognizing these territories is against Ukraine's constitution.
Trump responded by questioning why Ukraine didn't fight for Crimea eleven years ago. He also stated that inflammatory statements from Zelensky make resolving the war difficult. Trump claims that a US-mediated agreement is close.
