Secret Service Shoots Man Near White House; Putin Launches Deadly Attack on Ukraine, Trump Threatens Sanctions

In Washington, D.C., Secret Service personnel shot a man near the White House on Sunday. The day before, police shared information about a "suicidal individual" possibly traveling from Indiana. Secret Service spotted the person's car and someone matching the description. The individual brandished a firearm, leading to an "armed confrontation" where Secret Service fired shots. The individual was hospitalized; no Secret Service personnel were injured. President Trump was in Florida at the time. Separately, Vladimir Putin launched a deadly attack on Ukraine on March 7, resulting in at least 21 civilian deaths and over 80 injuries, primarily in the Donetsk region. Trump threatened sanctions on Russia, including "large-scale banking sanctions, and tariffs," urging both countries to negotiate. The UN reported that casualties included children and that the overall casualty numbers in 2025 are higher than in 2024. Trump's former national security advisor, John Bolton, suggested Putin disregards Trump's warnings. Trump stated Russia was "easier to deal with" but also expressed difficulty dealing with Ukraine. Trump's envoy, Keith Kellogg, indicated that pausing military aid to Ukraine was a way to show seriousness. Trump also recently referred to Zelensky as a "dictator."
