Armenia is facing a crucial decision regarding its future membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and its relations with the European Union (EU).
In April 2025, the Armenian parliament adopted a draft law on the start of the process of joining the EU, despite the absence of an official offer of membership from the EU.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko stated that simultaneous membership in the EAEU and the EU is not possible, and Armenia must make a choice.
The Russian ambassador to Armenia, Sergey Kopyrkin, emphasized that Armenia needs to decide where it is better to be, as simultaneous membership in the two different unions is impossible.
Armenia is now in a transitional period, where it must determine its future development vector in the context of relations with the EAEU and the EU.
