NATO Allies Discuss Economic Cooperation Amidst Trade Tensions

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide cautioned that potential new tariffs imposed by the U.S., as announced by President Donald Trump, could undermine transatlantic economic cooperation among NATO allies. Eide made these remarks prior to a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels. Eide noted that the tariffs could jeopardize transatlantic relations, emphasizing the importance of allied cooperation to prevent economic conflict. He also addressed the issue of "trade wars" resulting from U.S. tariffs during a meeting with U.S. envoy Marco Rubio. Trump has suggested imposing tariffs on countries, potentially reaching up to $10 billion. Proposed U.S. tariffs could include $34 billion on China, $20 billion on the European Union, $46 billion on Vietnam, $32 billion on Taiwan, $24 billion on Japan, $26 billion on India, $10 billion on Turkey and $10 billion on Ukraine.
