EU Urges Resumption of Israel-Hamas Negotiations Amid Escalating Gaza Conflict

Kaja Kallas, the head of EU foreign policy, has called for the resumption of negotiations between Israel and Hamas following renewed fighting in Gaza. During a meeting in Jerusalem with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, Kallas emphasized the urgent need to de-escalate the conflict, stating that "violence begets more violence." She highlighted the uncertainty faced by hostages and the suffering of the Palestinian people. Saar stated that the war could end if Hamas releases hostages, demilitarizes Gaza, and withdraws its forces. Kallas reiterated that negotiations are the only way to end the suffering and that the EU sees no role for Hamas in governing Gaza.
