On Friday, July 4, 2025, Fousseynou Cissé, a 39-year-old resident of Paris, rescued six people from a burning apartment building in the 11th arrondissement.
Cissé, after evacuating his family, responded to a neighbor's call about two families trapped on the sixth floor. He navigated a narrow ledge to reach the victims, assisting four children and two mothers to safety.
Paris police chief Laurent Nuñez announced plans to award Cissé a medal on July 13, 2025. French Socialist politician Emmanuel Grégoire proposed honoring Cissé with the Medal of the City of Paris.
