Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

Asia's first upper arm double hand transplant was successfully performed in Kochi, India. The recipient was Shreya Siddanagowda, a 19-year-old student who lost both her hands in an accident. The complex surgery lasted 13 hours.

A team of 20 surgeons and 16 anaesthetists connected nerves, muscles, tendons, and arteries. The donor was Sachin, a 20-year-old declared brain dead after an accident. His parents' decision to donate provided Shreya a new lease on life.

The rehabilitation process is intensive, requiring daily physiotherapy. Upper arm transplants are challenging due to the complexity of connecting various tissues. Shreya expressed gratitude to the donor's family and the medical team.
