Canary Islands Drafts Decree for Citizen Involvement in Renewable Energy Projects

Edited by: Anna 🎨 Krasko

The Canary Islands are progressing in drafting a decree to regulate direct citizen involvement in clean energy projects. The initiative is supported by successful cases and practical experiences in local training and investment. The Department of Ecological Transition and Energy is developing this regulation to ensure local populations benefit economically and participate actively in renewable energy development. The draft focuses on solar and wind energy projects exceeding 2MW, allocating 20% of the total project value for citizen participation. The government collaborates with Fundeen, a Spanish platform for co-investment in renewable generation projects, to facilitate citizen investment.
