Baghdad, Iraq, June 22, 2025 – The Iraqi government condemned the American-Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, describing them as a blatant violation of the Islamic Republic's sovereignty and a serious threat to regional peace and security.

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani called for an immediate United Nations Security Council meeting, emphasizing that military actions can never replace diplomacy. Government spokesman Basim al-Awadi added that the targeted sites, including Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordo, are under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency and are used for peaceful purposes.

Iraq also urged the United States to prevent airspace violations and expressed solidarity with Iran, reaffirming its commitment to collective peace in accordance with the UN Charter. Al-Awadi warned that continued attacks could provoke a large-scale conflict with consequences extending beyond the involved parties, and reminded that "wars leave only destruction."

Iran, in turn, condemned the attacks as a violation of its sovereignty and stated its right to self-defense. Following the strikes, Iranian missile attacks targeted Israeli territory.

The international community expressed deep concern about the escalating tensions and called for immediate de-escalation and the resumption of diplomatic efforts.
