Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, July 7, 2025 — At the 17th BRICS Summit, leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE, and Indonesia adopted a joint declaration focusing on global governance issues.
The declaration called for urgent and comprehensive reform of the United Nations Security Council. Leaders noted that the structure of the Council should reflect contemporary international realities and provide developing countries with greater opportunities to participate in global decision-making.
The summit also addressed global trade issues, condemned unilateral trade measures, and reaffirmed support for a rules-based multilateral trading system, as well as discussed global conflicts and expressed support for diplomatic approaches to peace and development.
