Israeli strikes on hospitals in Gaza reportedly killed at least 18 people on Tuesday. The strikes followed a brief pause in fighting that saw the release of Edan Alexander. Alexander had been in Hamas captivity since the October 7, 2023 attack. The strikes hit the European Hospital complex near Khan Younis. Images show large craters and cracks outside the complex. A damaged bus was lodged in a hole in the road. Israeli media reported the target was Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar. Israel's military said it hit a "Hamas command centre" beneath the hospital. Another strike hit Gaza's Nasser hospital, where the Israeli military said it "eliminated significant Hamas terrorists". The Israeli military urged civilians in northern Gaza to evacuate after intercepting "two projectiles". Hamas ally Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for rocket fire into Israel. Netanyahu said his country's operation in Gaza would only be complete when Hamas is destroyed.
