A staff member of the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS) was killed in Gaza on Wednesday, amidst renewed Israeli military operations. The incident occurred in Deir al Balah, where an explosive munition struck a UN facility housing UNOPS offices and a residential area for UN agency workers. Five other UN personnel were injured.
UNOPS Director Jorge Moreira da Silva expressed shock, stating the facility was well-known to the Israeli military and had been attacked in the past two days. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) denied targeting a UN complex in Deir al Balah and requested media caution.
The incident occurred as the IDF announced the start of ground operations in central and southern Gaza, resulting in numerous casualties and new evacuation orders for residents.
