EU, UK, and Germany Pledge Over €660 Million in Aid for Syria at Brussels Conference

The European Union pledged €2.5 billion ($2.7 billion) on Monday for Syria, focusing on reconstruction efforts. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated Syrians need increased support whether they remain abroad or choose to return. The UK committed up to £160 million ($200 million) this year for aid to Syria, prioritizing basic needs such as water, food, healthcare, and education through 2025. Germany pledged an additional €300 million to the UN and other organizations for humanitarian assistance in Syria. These pledges were made during the annual Brussels conference on Syria, co-chaired by the EU. The UN estimates that $7.5 billion is needed for Syria this year, but funding is at risk due to delayed international contributions.
