COP30 Summit Dates Shifted to November 6-7 in Belém Amid Logistical Preparations

The summit for heads of state and government at the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) has been rescheduled to November 6-7, prior to the official conference opening. Valter Correia, the extraordinary secretary for COP30, announced the change, citing logistical considerations, particularly regarding hotel capacity in Belém, Brazil. The COP30 conference dates remain unchanged, scheduled for November 10-21 in Belém. This adjustment aims to facilitate deeper discussions among leaders and improve the organization of the event's official opening. Brazil seeks to elevate the summit's political importance, aiming for participation from key leaders from the European Union, China, India, and Japan. Belém is preparing to accommodate over 40,000 visitors, with assurances that all necessary infrastructure and accommodation solutions will be ready by September. The Brazilian government is developing an official COP30 platform to manage accommodations, expected to launch by the end of March.
