Gaza Faces Humanitarian Crisis as Aid Suspended and Electricity Cut Amidst Ceasefire Talks Stalemate

Gaza faces a deepening humanitarian crisis following Israel's suspension of goods entering the enclave, impacting food, medicine, and fuel imports. Several bakeries have closed due to lack of cooking gas, leading to rising food prices. The UNRWA reports most of Gaza's 2.3 million residents depend on aid, now threatened by the suspension. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent societies reports dwindling aid supplies, forcing rationing.

Israel's Energy Minister directed the Israel Electric Corporation to halt electricity sales to Gaza, affecting a wastewater treatment plant and potentially depriving residents of clean water. The Palestinian Water Authority reports a water desalination plant has suspended operations, impacting water supply to central and southern Gaza.

Despite a truce halting fighting since January 19, Hamas and Israel remain divided on postwar governance and hostage release terms. Arab mediators are working to salvage the ceasefire deal, with talks ongoing in Doha.
