African Union Calls for Humanitarian Corridors and Two-State Solution at Cairo Summit Amid Gaza Crisis

The organization welcomed the gradual ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in Gaza and the ongoing release of Israeli hostages, expressing hope for the unconditional release of all abducted Palestinians. The AU condemned Israel's military response to Hamas attacks since October 7, 2023, as disproportionate, citing severe humanitarian consequences and the potential for regional conflict escalation. The Union also rejected the expansion of settlements and the annexation of Palestinian territory, while supporting religious tolerance to prevent hatred and violence.
