Humanitarian Agencies Pledge $2.54 Billion to Aid Over 11 Million in DR Congo

Humanitarian organizations have pledged $2.54 billion to provide life-saving assistance and protection to over 11 million people in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This urgent appeal, coinciding with the "Mars 23 Movement" resurgence in eastern areas, addresses escalating humanitarian needs, as highlighted by the "Congo in Focus" initiative. The UN and its partners plan a 2025 humanitarian response, collaborating with Congolese authorities. Bruno Lemarquis, the humanitarian coordinator, emphasized that all alerts are overshadowed by the color red, while the UN official, Stephane Dujarric, noted the initiative aims to deliver aid to over 11 million people, including 7.8 million internally displaced. Dujarric also pointed out the country faces significant humanitarian challenges, compounded by years of conflict and disease outbreaks. Last year, humanitarian partners reached nearly 1.3 million people. Dujarric expressed commitment to aiding Congolese, urging support to ensure assistance reaches those in need.
