17th BRICS Summit in Rio: Global Governance and Multilateralism

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - July 6-7, 2025 - The 17th BRICS Summit convened in Rio de Janeiro, bringing together leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres participated in discussions on strengthening multilateralism, economic-financial matters, and artificial intelligence. He announced a report with proposals for voluntary funding for AI capacity building in developing countries, seeking BRICS support.

The summit addressed global governance, climate financing, UN reform, and strengthening multilateralism, aiming for a more just and inclusive international order. The BRICS adopted a 126-point political declaration reaffirming commitment to multilateralism and international law.
