A massive wildfire erupted in June 2025 along the Croatian Adriatic coast, leading to widespread evacuations and significant destruction. The fire broke out approximately 30 kilometers south of Split, in the settlements of Pisak and Marusici, threatening both locals and tourists.
The village of Marusici, with around 200 residents, was completely evacuated. Numerous houses and vehicles were destroyed by the flames. The Croatian fire department warned that the fire was "completely out of control."
Firefighting efforts were hampered by extreme heat, dryness, and strong winds. Authorities reported at least twelve destroyed houses in the Split region. No injuries have been reported, and the exact cause of the fire is still unknown.
