Russian Drone Strikes on Kyiv Result in Casualties and Damage on January 1, 2025

On January 1, 2025, Russian forces launched a drone attack on Kyiv, resulting in injuries to six individuals. The assault occurred in the morning, with two people hospitalized, while four others, including a pregnant woman, received on-site medical assistance, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko.

The attack caused partial destruction of the fourth to sixth floors of a residential building in the Pechersk district. A fire broke out over an area of 70 square meters, which has since been localized and is being extinguished by emergency services. Additionally, a fire occurred on the roof of a nearby non-residential building, prompting a response from 75 firefighters and 19 units of firefighting equipment.

In the Svyatoshyn district, garages were destroyed, and a fire affected an area of 20 square meters. Ten firefighters and two units of firefighting equipment were deployed to manage the situation. Tram tracks were also damaged in the vicinity, with broken windows reported in three trams.

During the same night, Russian forces launched a total of 111 drones at Ukraine, with Ukrainian air defenses successfully neutralizing 109 of them. The remnants of the drones caused destruction and injuries in Kyiv, where debris fell on a building belonging to the National Bank of Ukraine, leading to a fire that was quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported from this incident.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, a Russian strike targeted a populated area, igniting several private homes, though a woman was rescued by firefighters. Overall, Russian forces conducted 227 strikes across 12 locations in the Zaporizhzhia region over the past day. In Dnipropetrovsk, attacks were reported in Nikopol using multiple rocket launch systems and kamikaze drones, damaging private homes and a medical center, but no casualties were reported.
