Intense Russian Assault Targets Kyiv With Drones and Missiles

On June 22, 2025, Russian forces launched a large-scale aerial assault on Kyiv, Ukraine. The attack involved 352 drones and 16 missiles, according to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the attack, mentioning the use of Shahed drones and, unverified reports of ballistic weapons from North Korea. The assault began around 8 pm local time, and Ukrainian forces reported repelling the attack.

This attack follows a series of intensified Russian aerial assaults on Ukraine. On June 17, 2025, a similar attack resulted in at least 14 fatalities in Kyiv. In response, Ukraine is accelerating the development of interceptor drones to counter the increasing use of Russian drones.
