European Parliament To Vote On No-Confidence Motion Against Commission President

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

On July 10, 2025, the European Parliament will hold a no-confidence vote against European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

The motion was initiated by Romanian MEP Gheorghe Piperea, who cited allegations of von der Leyen's violation of EU transparency standards.

The vote follows a court ruling against the Commission regarding the non-disclosure of text messages exchanged with Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla during COVID-19 vaccine negotiations.

The motion has garnered support from various political groups, although its passage is considered unlikely due to the requirement of a two-thirds majority.

The vote highlights growing concerns about transparency and accountability within the EU, particularly regarding decisions made during the pandemic.
