Argentina And United States Discuss Hemispheric Security Cooperation

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

In June 2025, high-level officials from Argentina and the United States met to discuss strengthening hemispheric security. The focus was on cooperation in combating drug trafficking, organized crime, and protecting critical infrastructure and border security.

The meeting highlighted Argentina's commitment to regional security and addressed joint efforts to mitigate threats to critical infrastructure. While details were not specified, it is speculated that these efforts may include enhanced border security cooperation and measures to neutralize potential terrorist threats.

This collaboration follows recent initiatives between the two countries to combat transnational crime. In May 2025, Argentina's Ministry of National Security approved "Plan Guacurarí," an operation for border control and surveillance, particularly in the Triple Frontier area, aimed at dismantling transnational criminal networks. Furthermore, the 10th Hemispheric Security Conference was held in Miami in April 2025, organized by Florida International University (FIU) and the U.S. Southern Command. This event brought together experts to discuss economic, environmental security, organized crime, and artificial intelligence, reflecting the growing concern for regional security and the need for closer cooperation.
