The U.S. government is cutting funding to Harvard University following an investigation into antisemitism on campus. A joint task force from the Education Department and the Department of Health and Human Services determined that Jewish students faced insults, assault, and intimidation without adequate response from Harvard's leadership.
The Trump administration had previously frozen $2.2 billion in funds and is now taking further action. Harvard President Alan Garber has responded with a letter outlining reforms to address antisemitism, seeking to regain favor with the administration.
Harvard filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration in April over the frozen funds, claiming a violation of First Amendment rights. The administration has prioritized addressing antisemitism on campuses, cutting grants from Columbia University earlier this year for similar reasons.
