Turkey and Italy Strengthen Ties at 4th Intergovernmental Summit

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkey and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni convened in Italy for the 4th Intergovernmental Summit. Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the growing relations between their countries, emphasizing their roles as NATO allies.

During the summit, Turkey and Italy signed 11 agreements across various sectors, including defense, energy, and space research. The two countries aim to increase their trade volume to $40 billion. They also plan to strengthen cooperation in the defense industry through new partnerships and projects.

Erdoğan reiterated Turkey's support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and its ongoing efforts for peace in the Black Sea region. He also emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza to allow humanitarian aid. Meloni highlighted the strategic partnership between Italy and Turkey, particularly in the energy sector, and noted the success in curbing irregular migration from Turkey.
