Russia Announces May 8-10 Ceasefire in Ukraine for Victory Day

The Kremlin has announced a full ceasefire in Ukraine from May 8th to 10th, coinciding with Russia's Victory Day celebrations on May 9th, commemorating the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in World War II. The truce is scheduled to commence at midnight on May 8th (2100 GMT on May 7th) and will last through May 10th.

According to the Kremlin, President Vladimir Putin has ordered a complete cessation of hostilities on humanitarian grounds for Victory Day. This announcement comes amid ongoing efforts by U.S. President Donald Trump to facilitate a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.

Previously, Putin had conditioned any unconditional ceasefire on a halt to Western arms supplies to Ukraine and the cessation of Ukraine's mobilization efforts. The Kremlin stated that it expects Ukraine to adhere to the ceasefire but will respond if violations occur.
