Amnesty International Relaunches Hong Kong Office Overseas Amid Rights Concerns

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

Amnesty International has relaunched its Hong Kong office "in exile" as Amnesty International Hong Kong Overseas (AIHKO), more than three years after shutting down its operation in Hong Kong due to national security legislation risks. The new office will be led by Hong Kong activists operating from Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States and is registered in Switzerland. AIHKO's executive director, Chi-man Luk, stated the opening marks a new chapter in Amnesty's dedication to human rights in Hong Kong and support for the Hong Kong diaspora. Priorities include raising awareness on prisoners of conscience and transnational repression. As of April, Hong Kong has arrested 322 people and convicted 163 under security laws.
