EU Member States Approve Trade Countermeasures Against the US, Except Hungary

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

European Union member states, with the exception of Hungary, have approved trade countermeasures against the United States in response to tariffs imposed by the U.S. on steel and aluminum imports. The decision was made on April 9, 2025, following a vote in favor of the measures proposed by the European Commission. The EU views the U.S. tariffs as unjustified and economically harmful to both parties and the global economy. The approved countermeasures are scheduled to take effect starting April 15. The EU has stated its preference for a negotiated outcome with the U.S. and indicated that the countermeasures can be suspended if a fair and balanced agreement is reached.
