China Imposes Tariffs on US Goods and Export Controls on Rare Earths; Canada Responds to US Tariffs with Counter-Tariffs

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

China's Ministry of Commerce announced that tariffs on goods from the U.S. will take effect on April 10. Export controls will also be implemented for seven rare earth elements, including Gadolinium and Yttrium.

Peking has placed eleven American companies on a blacklist, effectively preventing them from conducting trade in China or with Chinese entities. The Chinese government also plans to file a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization (WTO) regarding U.S. tariffs.

Canada is responding to U.S. tariffs by imposing counter-tariffs on certain vehicle imports from the United States. All cars not produced under the USMCA trade agreement will be subject to a 25 percent import fee.
