Paris Summit Concludes: Nations Plan 'Reassurance Force' for Ukraine Post-Peace Deal

A summit in Paris involving 33 nations concluded with discussions on security guarantees for Ukraine. France and the UK will dispatch teams to Ukraine to assist in planning the future structure of its armed forces, according to French President Emmanuel Macron. Macron announced the planning of a "reassurance force" to be deployed in Ukraine following a peace agreement. This force, distinct from a traditional peacekeeping operation, aims to act as a security guarantee in strategic areas, not on the front lines. Several states are expected to contribute, though unanimity among coalition members is not required. British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer emphasized the need for U.S. involvement in any long-term security arrangement and stated that the UK Parliament would vote on deploying troops to Ukraine as part of this force. Starmer also supported increased sanctions on Russia.
