The conflict in Sudan, rooted in the power struggle between General Abdelfatah Al Burhan, leader of the Sudanese Armed Forces (FAS), and Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, head of the Rapid Support Forces (FAR), has escalated into a major humanitarian crisis. Since April 2023, the rivalry has led to a war displacing 8.8 million Sudanese internally and forcing over three million to seek refuge in neighboring countries, according to the UN refugee agency. The UN Security Council has warned that the FAR's move to form a "Government of peace and unity" in areas under its control could worsen the conflict and fragment the country, further deteriorating the humanitarian situation.
